HL Deb 28 July 1976 vol 373 c1458WA
Lord TAYLOR

asked Her Majesty's Government:

What is the approximate number of rooms in the new Treatment Block at St. Thomas' Hospital, and the approximate number of such rooms which are without windows.

Lord WELLS-PESTELL

There are approximately 873 rooms in the Treatment Block at St. Thomas' Hospital of which 684 are without windows. Only 224 of these rooms are permanently occupied by staff. All rooms are air conditioned. The high proportion of windowless rooms arises from the design of the new hospital buildings, which had been planned in depth to accommodate all the facilities required, and had to take account of the restricted site and the planning requirement that the buildings should not exceed the height of the neighbouring County Hall.
