HC Deb 26 July 1976 vol 916 c113W
Mr. Arthur Lewis

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services whether he is aware that records are not kept of the actual amounts of moneys given to non-British citizens who land in the United Kingdom and claim supplementary assistance and whether he will take some action to collect this information and see to what extent the system is being abused.

Mr. Deakins

The conditions for entitlement to supplementary benefit and the safeguards against abuse are the same for British and non-British citizens. The information is not, therefore, required and could be obtained only at disproportionate expense.
