HC Deb 26 July 1976 vol 916 c49W
Mr. Nicholas Winterton

asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science, what is his estimate of the number of university and polytechnic places available for first-year students in the forthcoming academic year.

Mr. Gerry Fowler

It is expected that in 1976–77 the number of first year full-time and sandwich students, excluding postgraduates, will be about 77,000 in universities in Great Britain, and 45,000 in polytechnics in England and Wales.
