asked the Lord President of the Council how many letters he has received from members of the general public and organisations in favour of the Edinburgh Assembly.

Mr. John Smith

39 from the general public and 15 from organisations specifically in favour, but many of the letters to my right hon. Friend have been concerned with particular facets of devolution and have not expressed a view on the principle.
