HC Deb 26 July 1976 vol 916 cc88-9W
Mr. Loyden

asked the Secretary of State for Industry, in view of the high level of unemployment on Merseyside, if he will take steps under the Industry Act to keep the firm of Whiteley Lang and Neill in prduction as an engineering factory.

Mr. Alan Williams

A loan of £300,000 under the Industry Act 1972 was made to Lindustries Limited when it took over Whiteley Lang and Neill in 1973. The parent company has now concluded, however, that there is no viable future for its Speke factory as an engineering operation and is considering alternative forms of employment for it.
