Mr. Moonman

asked the Secretary of State for Industry what are the percentages and total of his advertising budget allocated to both daily and Sunday newspapers at 31st December 1975 and to 30th June 1976.

Advertising expenditure in all media by the Central Office of Information for the Department of Industry for the 12 months period ending 31st December 1975 was £468,061; of this £220,669 or 46 per cent. was spent in national daily newspapers and £77,880 or 17 per cent. in Sunday newspapers.

For the six months period ending 30th June 1976 advertising expenditure in all media was £200,559; of this £135,834 or 68 per cent. was spent in national daily newspapers and £43,638 or 22 per cent. in Sunday newspapers.

In addition, for the 12 months period ending 31st December 1975 advertising expenditure in all media by the Department of Industry on a common services basis for the three Departments of Industry, Trade, and Prices and Consumer Protection was £.146,206; of this £84,163 or 57.6 per cent. was spent in national daily newspapers and £2,201 or 1.5 per cent. in Sunday newspapers. For the six months ending 30th June 1976 the corresponding figures were £11,448; £6,103 or 53.3 per cent; £1,403 or 12.3 per cent.
