HC Deb 12 July 1976 vol 915 cc83-4W
Mr. Goodlad

asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food what progress has been made in discussions with EEC countries on the harmonisation of veterinary regulations.

Mr. Strang

Before our accession, the EEC had enacted a number of veterinary harmonisation directives. We and the other new member States secured various derogations to maintain and protect our animal health status. These derogations will shortly be reviewed, along with the animal disease situation throughout the enlarged Community. Last year we secured amendments to the directive on trade in poultry meat. Decisions have not yet been reached on the veterinary aspects of Community policy on imports of meat, cattle and pigs from third countries or on proposals for directives on liquid milk production and on intra-Community trade in meat products.
