HC Deb 12 July 1976 vol 915 c83W
Mr. Marten

asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food if he will set out the quantities of individual foodstuffs which have been destroyed within the EEC and under the operations of the common agricultural policy since 1st January 1973.

Mr. Bishop

There are no provisions under the common agricultural policy for the deliberate destruction of foodstuffs, though withdrawn fish or horticultural produce for which no outlet could be found has occasionally been dumped. In the United Kingdom, some 370 tons out of a total of 27,000 tons of withdrawn fish have had to be dumped: no withdrawn horticultural produce has been destroyed. Comparable figures for the Community as a whole are not available.
