HC Deb 12 July 1976 vol 915 cc68-9W
Mr. John Page

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services in how many cases over the last five years, and at what expense to the taxpayer, supplementary or other benefits have been paid to Commonwealth citizens and aliens, respectively, who have been admitted to the United Kingdom on temporary work permits as students or visitors.

Mr. Deakins

Since details of such payments are not recorded separately, this information is not available, but supplementary benefit is not normally paid to students or visitors allowed entry by the immigration authorities on the under- standing that they have sufficient funds to cover their stay, unless there is unforeseen hardship.
