HC Deb 12 July 1976 vol 915 c79W
Mr. Pavitt

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services whether he will recommend that in future the designation "medical laboratory scientist" be used to describe those employed in medical laboratories who are presently referred to as "medical laboratory technicians".

Mr. Deakins

"Medical laboratory technician" is the title under which a person is at present required to register under the Professions Supplementary to Medicine Act 1960 and the National Health Service (Professions Supplementary to Medicine) Regulations 1974. Before deciding whether to make any change I wish to have the views of all concerned and I understand the question is currently being considered by the Council for Professions Supplementary to Medicine and the NHS Whitley Council.
