HC Deb 12 July 1976 vol 915 c52W
Mr. John Moore

asked the Secretary of State for Industry if he will publish in the Official Report a table showing for each year since 1960 what percentage of world production of chemicals was produced in the United Kingdom.

Mr. Alan Williams

The information is not available. It is estimated that the United Kingdom's share of the total turnover of chemicals in OECD countries declined from about 9½ per cent. in 1960 to about 8 per cent. in 1973. OECD countries account for about two-thirds of world industrial production. These figures should be used with caution as the data are not fully consistent over the period.
