Mr. Gow

asked the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland (1) what is his estimate of the cost of introducing identity cards for all residents of Northern Ireland; and how many representations he has received that that step would be helpful in combating terrorism;

(2) what further measures he is proposing to take to combat terrorism in Northern Ireland, in view of the continuing high level of terrorist activity;

(3) how many unmanned road crossing points there are between Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland; and what was the number on the same date in each of the past five years;

(4) what was the total number of terrorist incidents, in each category, including bomb attacks, murders and woundings, and damage to property in the period 1st January 1976 down to the latest available date; and what were the similar figures for each of the last five years.
