HC Deb 29 January 1976 vol 904 c269W
Mr. Lamborn

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department whether, following the announcement of the programme for the celebration of the Queen's Silver Jubilee, he can give an indication of the Government's attitude towards the organisation of celebrations outside the official programme in London.

Mr. Roy Jenkins:

As the Prime Minister said in his reply to a Question from my hon. Friend the Member for South Shields (Mr. Blenkinsop) on 18th December—[Vol. 902, c. 687–90.]—the Government would welcome local contributions to the celebrations, and were most pleased to learn of a committee, established under the chairmanship of Lord Drogheda, to organise such events in London. No doubt Lord Drogheda and his colleagues will wish to maintain close contacts with the Chairman of the Arts and Sports Councils, with a view to achieving a co-ordinated programme of activities.
