HC Deb 29 January 1976 vol 904 cc301-2W
Mr. Steen

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment what transpired at the Regional Consultative Committee meeting at Merseyside County Council chaired by him on 12th January.

Mr. Marks

The Regional Annual Consultative Committee meeting held on 12th January under my chairmanship was attended by representatives of the Greater Manchester, Merseyside, Cheshire, Cumbria and Lancashire County Councils together with officials from the Department of the Environment. It completed a series covering the operational areas of each of my Department's road construction units. The Committee discussed the present state of the trunk road network in the North-West, it considered a report on progress on all major trunk road schemes in the area either under construction or planned, and it paid particular attention to the relationships between trunk road and local authority road programmes and investment. The Committee also reviewed the new system of consultation between the Department and local authorities on trunk road matters, of which this Committee forms part.
