HC Deb 29 January 1976 vol 904 cc332-3W
Mr. George Rodgers

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services when the agreement with the Federal Republic of Germany providing for medical treatment of self-employed and non-employed visitors to the Federal Republic will come into force; and if she will make a statement.

Mrs. Castle

Ratification procedures were completed on 18th December 1975 and the agreement will come into force on 1st February 1976. The agreement benefits all United Kingdom and German citizens who are resident in this country and who are not already covered as employed persons by the EEC Social Security Regulations. It enables them and their dependants to receive urgent medical or dental treatment when visiting the Federal Republic on the same terms as insured German citizens. Persons wishing to take advantage of these new facilities should apply to local social security offices under arrangements which I am publishing today.
