HC Deb 29 January 1976 vol 904 c345W
Mr. Marten

asked the Secretary of State for Prices and Consumer Protection what is the cost of the bread subsidy on an annual basis; and what is the estimated cost of administering it.

Mr. Maclennan

At the present rate of subsidy of £4.06 per sack of flour the annual cost of the bread subsidy is estimated at £64 million. The total costs of administration are now estimated to be of the order of £650,000 on an annual basis or approximately 1p for every £1 of subsidy.
