Mr. Wigley

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer what proportion of the increase in the Civil Estimates contained in the Supplementary Estimates of 8th December, is caused by fluctuations in exchange rates; and what financial sum this represents.

Mr. Joel Barnett

The amount sought in the Winter Supplementary Estimates of 8th December in respect of fluctuations in exchange rates is about £6 million. This represents 0.2 per cent. of the total of £2,790 million for the Civil Supplementary Estimates.
