Mr. Fairbairn

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs what was the cost of printing the British Council Annual Report 1974–75; how many copies were printed; how many were distributed free; and what was the cost of the distribution.

Mr. Ennals

The estimated cost of printing the British Council's annual report for 1974–75 was £6,300. In addition, the estimated cost of design and preparation was £2,200. 14,500 copies were printed and all but 1,000 of these were distributed free. The remainder are available for sale at 50p each through Her Majesty's Stationery Office. Distribution is made in a number of ways, including the Council's offices in Britain and in some 80 countries overseas and it is not possible to estimate the cost of distribution.

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs what was the total cost of designing, preparing and printing the annual report for 1974–75 of the British Council.

The total estimated cost of designing, preparing and printing the British Council's annual report for 1974–75 was £8,500.
