HC Deb 25 February 1976 vol 906 cc243-4W
62. Mr. Cartwright

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment what action he is taking to encourage local authorities and housing associations to provide more units of sheltered accommodation for the elderly and the handicapped.

Mr. Freeson

My Department will shortly be consulting local authority associations and the main voluntary organisations concerned, about the content of an up-to-date circular on housing for old people. It is envisaged that the circular will ask local authorities, housing associations and new town corporations to supply information on the existing stock of sheltered housing and on their proposals for future provision; to outline ways in which choice of housing for old people could be widened; and to deal with other associated matters.

I shall be making my promised statement on the steps which have been taken to encourage increased provision of housing for disabled people as soon as the figures for 1975 are available.
