HC Deb 18 February 1976 vol 905 c748W
Mr. Hardy

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services what was the number of disabled persons who benefited from allocation of grant to support the use of motor vehicles or by the provision of motor vehicles during 1975; and what is the number of disabled persons she expects will benefit from the mobility allowance when this is fully in operation.

Mr. Alfred Morris

The number of people who benefited at any time during 1975 is not available, but on 31st December 1975 in England 28,781 vehicles were on issue and 23,680 private car allowances were in payment. I have no reason at this stage to revise the original tentative estimate that, when mobility allowance has been fully phased-in, it may benefit some 100,000 additional disabled people who have not enjoyed help through the vehicle service.
