HC Deb 11 February 1976 vol 905 c243W
Mr. Cryer

asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science if he anticipates any reduction in class sizes during 1976; and if he will make a statement.

Miss Joan Lestor

Local education authorities were informed in the Department's Circular 15/75 that the rate support grant settlement for 1976–77 assumed the same staffing standards in maintained schools in the coming school year as in the current year. This does not necessarily mean that the standards in individual schools will not alter, but taking the country as a whole, I expect little or no change in class sizes during, 1976.
