Mr. Moonman

asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science whether the functions and activities of the British Film Institute are likely to be integrated into the proposed British Film Authority.

The Report "Future of the Film Industry" (Cmnd 6372) did not propose such integration; but it did recommend that so far as practicable the sponsorship and allocation of the Government's financial support for the Institute should be transferred to the proposed British Films Authority. I have sought the views of the Governors on this proposal, as part of the consideration by the Government of the recommendations in the Report. It is hoped to make a statement as soon as possible.
