§ Mrs. Wiseasked the Chancellor of the Exchequer what amount of income tax would be payable in the following cases, assuming only the normal tax allowances are applicable in each case: (i) married couple, child aged 15 years, wife not working, income £50 per week, (ii) married couple, child aged 15 years, wife earning £15 per week, total family income £50 per week and (iii) widow, two children aged 15 and 13 years, total income including widowed mother's allowance and her employment, £50 per week.
§ Mr. Robert Sheldon,pursuant to his reply[Official Report, 9th February 1976; Vol. 905, c. 49], gave the following information:
The weekly amounts of tax payable are £9.22, £4.68 and £7.37 respectively.
