§ Mr. Douglas-Mannasked the Attorney-General what steps he is taking to ensure that when a book or film has been the subject of a prosecution for alleged obscenity, and the defendant acquitted, subsequent prosecutions are not brought in respect of the same book or film.
§ The Attorney-GeneralI sympathise with the spirit of my hon. Friend's question, particularly in cases where the original prosecution was brought because the defendant had asked to be prosecuted in conformity with the Law Officers' undertakings. In view of the complexities of the law relating to obscenity I am consulting with the Director of Public Prosecutions on what steps would be appropriate and effective.
