HC Deb 09 February 1976 vol 905 c75W
Mr. Sillars

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland what is his estimate of the number of young people who will leave school during 1976.

Mr. William Ross

71,000 pupils are expected to leave up to the end of the summer term and a further 16,000 up to Christmas, giving a total for the calendar year of 87,000. This estimate does not take account of the proposals for revising school leaving arrangements which I announced on 19th January.
