HC Deb 09 February 1976 vol 905 c77W
Mr. Reid

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland how many hospital beds there were in Scotland in 1949 and 1974; and what proportion of the 1974 figures was in hospitals built before 1918.

Mr. William Ross

The earliest date for which comparable statistics are available is 31st December 1951, when there were 60,591 staffed beds in NHS hospitals. At 30th September 1974 there were 61,514. Information is not held centrally about the number of beds in hospitals built before 1918.
