Mr. Mike Thomas

asked the Secretary of State for Energy (1) what was the total actuarial value of the pensions of all employees and board members of the National Coal Board appointed by him or his predecessors at the latest available date; what were the numbers of persons involved; and what were the comparable figures a year earlier;

(2) what was the total actuarial value of the pensions of all employees and board members of the Electricity Council, area boards and CEGB appointed by him or his predecessors at the latest available involved; and what were the comparable date; what were the numbers of persons figures a year earlier;

(3) what was the total actuarial value of the pensions of all employees and board members of the British Gas Corporation appointed by him or his predecessors at the latest available date; what were the numbers of persons involved; and what were the comparable figures a year earlier.

The actuarial value of pensions of employees of the energy industries is a matter for the boards of the industries concerned. The calculation of actuarial values in respect of board members could only be undertaken at disproportionate cost.
