§ Mr. Watkinsonasked the Attorney-General what was the total cost to the taxpayer of the prosecution and defence in the proceedings against Heinrich Hanau and others in relation to the book "Inside Linda Lovelace".
§ The Attorney-GeneralWhilst the actual amount must depend upon the decisions of taxing officers, an estimate that I have seen referred to in the Press, of £200,000, is a gross exaggeration. It is not anticipated that the costs will exceed about £13,000. Of this approximate sum, costs at the committal stage amounted to about £1,000, solicitors' and witnesses' costs came to about £6,000 and the total fees for five counsels, including preparation and trial, amount to about £6,000.
