§ Mr. Spriggsasked the Secretary of State for the Environment whether he will commission a study into the environmental and social costs of the road system in terms of (a) air pollution (b) congestion (c) land blighting and consumption (d) noise levels (e) personal stress/depression (f) vibration and (g) visual intrusion.
§ Dr. GilbertThe Department has for some years conducted and sponsored research on all these topics. This is a field where quantification is difficult, but in view of its importance the Department is continuing research on a fairly considerable scale.
