HC Deb 04 February 1976 vol 904 c651W
89. Sir Anthony Royle

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment if he will open discussions with the Health Department of the Richmond-upon-Thames Council and the Alkali Inspectorate with regard to the control of air pollution caused by Messrs Gardiners, merchants in Kew.

Mr. Denis Howell

I assume that the hon. Member is referring to smell from the food processing operations of Messrs Gardner Merchants. Odour control is a matter for the London borough of Richmond-upon-Thames as the local authority responsible for environmental health. It has already consulted the Alkali Inspectorate, which has offered advice on ways of reducing the smell from the factory. Various methods of dealing with the problem are, I understand, under consideration.
