§ Mr. Arthur Lewisasked the Secretary of State for the Home Department whether he will give details of the number of murders, manslaughters and baby killings in 1935 and at the latest convenient stated date.
§ Mr. Alexander W. LyonThe numbers of offences of homicide recorded as known to the police in 1935 were as follows:
It is not, in general, easy to distinguish between these offences in the absence of court proceedings, and it was accordingly decided that from 1973 that in classifying homicides recorded as known to the police no distinction should be made between 422W them unless there had been a court decision. Thus, the figures given above for 1935 are not comparable with those given below. The following table gives details of offences as recorded in the 1974 Criminal Statistics as homicide, on the new basis of presentation for 1974, the latest year for which figures are available.
