HC Deb 21 December 1976 vol 923 c106W
Mr. Sproat

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services what account, if any, is taken of a husband's income when a wife applies for unemployment benefit.

Mr. Orme

No account is taken of a husband's income in establishing a wife's right to personal unemployment benefit where she has been contributing herself. An increase of unemployment benefit for dependants is, however, only payable if the husband is incapable of supporting himself by reason of physical or mental infirmity and is likely to remain so incapable for a prolonged period.
