HC Deb 21 December 1976 vol 923 cc105-6W
Mr. Hannam

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services how many disabled mothers have successfully applied for a four-wheeled vehicle since 1st January 1976; under what conditions they may apply for a four-wheeled vehicle after 1st January 1976; and whether he has decided what the final date for such applications will be.

Mr. Alfred Morris

Mobility provision for severely disabled people other than war pensioners changed on 31st December 1975 from vehicles to cash. Subsequent applications for cars were entertained only where there was a specific or implied commitment. No special record was kept of the few cases concerned. The hon. Gentleman will know that, under the new arrangements, help is available to more disabled mothers since it is no longer restricted to those who are able to drive.
