HC Deb 13 December 1976 vol 922 cc563-4W
Mr. Sillars

asked the Secretary of State for Employment what are the present number of notified vacancies in manufacturing within Scotland.

Mr. Golding

At August 1976, the latest date for which an industrial analysis is available, the numbers of notified vacancies remaining unfilled in manufacturing industries in Scotland were 4,867 held at employment offices and 655 at careers offices. These figures relate only to vacancies notified in employment offices and careers offices and are not a measure of total vacancies. Because of possible duplication the two series should not be added together.

Mr. Sillars

asked the Secretary of State for Employment (1) what have been the job losses or gains in the public manufacturing sector of the Scottish economy over the past four years;

(2) what have been the job losses or gains in the private manufacturing sector of the Scottish economy over the past four years.

Mr. Golding

I regret that this information is not available. Separate employment estimates for the public and private sectors are compiled only for the United Kingdom as a whole as published inEconomic Trends and National Income and Expenditure 1965–75.
