Mr. Durant

asked the Secretary of State for Trade how much foreign currency is earned by the following industries: hotel, film, theatre and opera; and what proportion of this foreign currency is earned by the film industry alone.

The information available covers receipts from overseas of the film industry in respect of the production of films in the United Kingdom and the performance of films in cinemas and television overseas. The latest figures, in respect of 1975, were published in an article on pages 534–536 ofTrade and Industry, 20th August 1976, a copy of which is in the Library. Separate information is not available on the foreign currency earnings of United Kingdom hotels, cinemas, theatre and opera.
