HC Deb 13 December 1976 vol 922 cc518-9W
Mr. Durant

asked the Secretary of State for Trade what financial assistance is made available by the British Overseas Trade Board's fairs and promotions branch to highly specialised firms which cannot belong to a group as a result of the specialised nature of their products.

Mr. Meacher

The British Overseas Grade Board's schemes of support for the promotion of exports generally require the sponsorship of a trade association or other recognised body and these sponsors are required to accept participation from members and non-members alike. In circumstances where there is no appropriate sponsor and where the board is satisfied that a particular promotion is desirable, the board is usually able to arrange sponsorship. All participants in the board's overseas promotions are eligible for the same assistance, which varies according to the scheme in question and the location of the market.

Mr. Durant

asked the Secretary of State for Trade what funds were voted by Parliament to the British Overseas Trade Board in 1974, 1975 and 1976, respectively.

Mr. Meacher

The amounts voted by Parliament to the Department of Trade for direct expenditure by the British Overseas Trade Board on export promotion support for United Kingdom industry were:

1974–75 £11,160,300
1975–76 £13,347,000
1976–77 £16,453,000
The figures are net and include Supplementary Estimates.
