§ Mr. Trotterasked the Chancellor of the Exchequer how many taxpayers living in England beside Brigadier C. R. Mitchell have been sent by the Inland Revenue in Cardiff a form entirely in Welsh, "Mae Fflurflen Dreth Incwm"; and why such forms are sent to England.
§ Mr. Robert Sheldon, pursuant to his reply [Official Report, 6th December 1976; Vol. 922, c. 61], gave the following information:
This form is intended for issue in Welsh only to taxpayers served by certain tax offices in Wales, not including Public Departments, Cardiff, which deals with Crown servants and pensioners throughout the United Kingdom. In the course of production the printer inserts the form into each return to be issued by the appropriate tax offices. During the 1976–77 production the Welsh form was wrongly inserted in one batch of returns for Public Departments. There is no record of how many taxpayers living in England were sent the Welsh form before the error was discovered and the form withdrawn.
