HC Deb 09 December 1976 vol 922 cc295-6W
Mr. Kilroy-Silk

asked the Prime Minister what was the cost and the result of official investigations into (a) the leak to The Guardian about the new flat for the Chief of Air Staff, (b) the Morning Star revelation about Her Majesty the Queen's finances and (c) the Frank Field affair.

The Prime Minister

As regards (a), here was insufficient indication of a leak to justify an investigation. As regards (b), my right hon. and learned Friend the Attorney-General, in consultation with the Director of Public Prosecutions, decided that criminal proceedings would not be justified. As to (c), I would refer my hon. Friend to the reply I gave to my hon. Friend for Derby, North (Mr. Whitehead) on 30th November. It is not possible to calculate the cost of the investigations except at disproportionate public expense.
