HC Deb 09 December 1976 vol 922 cc342-3W
Mr. Rost

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services how many additional hospital doctors are required in the Trent Region Health Authority area to bring numbers up to the national average; and how many are required to bring numbers up to compare with the Thames Authority.

Mr. Moyle

On 30th September 1975 an additional 680 whole-time equivalent hospital doctors would have been required in the Trent Region to bring the number of such doctors per head of population up to the average for England. To bring the number per head up to the average in the four Thames Regions, excluding medical staff employed by boards of governors of postgraduate hospitals, would have required 1,087 whole-time equivalent doctors.

Mr. Rost

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services by how many the lists of general practitioners in the Trent Regional Health Authority area exceed the national average.

Mr. Moyle

At 1st October 1975 the average list size of general practitioners providing the full range of general medical services in the Trent Region was 2,518, or 153 greater than the average for England.
