HC Deb 09 December 1976 vol 922 cc302-3W
Sir George Young

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment why he authorised a survey of telephone usage in his Department.

Mr. Shore

The survey was arranged to monitor the level of traffic so as to decide the appropriate telephonic equipment required in a similar sized building in Bristol which is to be occupied by some 1,000 DOE staff as part of the Government dispersal of civil servants from Central London.

Sir George Young

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment what action he proposes to take as a result of his survey of telephone usage.

Mr. Shore

Staff have already been instructed on economies necessary to reduce the departmental telephone bill.

Sir George Young

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment if he is satisfied with the use of the telephones in his Department.

Mr. Shore

Yes.
