asked the Secretary of State for Social Services (1) what is the total cost of unemployment benefit paid to males in the following age groups 64–65 years, 63–64 years, 62–63 years, 6162 years and 60–61 years based upon (a) the current level of benefit and (b) the level of benefits payable from November; (2) what is the total cost of supplementary benefits paid to unemployed males in the following age groups: 64–65 years, 63–64 years, 62–63 years, 61–62 years and 60–61 years; and what savings would be made in these costs if each group was eligible to claim a pension, basing the costs on: (a) the current level of benefits and (b) the level of benefits payable from November.

Following are details of estimated expenditure on unemployment benefit and supplementary benefit to unemployed males, and their dependants, between age 60 and age 65:

in both cases, a war pension of £13.08 a week regardless of length of service.
