Mr. Teddy Taylor

asked the Secretary of State for Employment by what percentage unemployment in Scotland has risen since February 1974.

Mr. Golding

Based on the seasonally adjusted figures, excluding school leavers, the numbers registered as unemployed in Scotland rose between February 1974 and July 1976 by 73.8 per cent.

Mr. Anthony Grant

asked the Secretary of State for Employment what was the number and percentage of people unemployed in July 1945, October 1951, October 1964, June 1970, February 1974 and June 1976.

I regret that the full information requested could be provided only at disproportionate cost. The following table, however, shows, for each employment office area in Strathclyde, the numbers unemployed at July 1971, the numbers unemployed at July 1976 and the percentage increase in the numbers from July 1971 to July 1976.

Percentage increases for each month could only be provided at disproportional cost. The figures are not adjusted to take account of seasonal factors.
