§ Mr. Hooleyasked the Minister of Overseas Development if he will make a statement on his latest policy measures in respect of technical co-operation through NUDO for Namibia; and if he intends to take account of the reaction of the National Unity Democratic Organisation, expressed by Mr. Kapuvo, to that policy.
§ Mr. Frank JuddI refer my hon. Friend to the reply given to my hon. 1121W Friend the Member for Cannock (Mr. Roberts) on 4th August. In addition to the continuing co-operation we will channel through SWAPO, we have now decided to provide 20 training places for Namibians who will be put forward by the National Unity Democratic Organisation. British technical co-operation for Namibia will not be provided through these two Namibian organisations alone; we are ready to consider proposals from other organisations. Decisions on other proposals to provide training places will depend on the suitability of the proposals made and, as at present, in the case of any particular request, on the aptitudes and qualification of the individuals concerned.—[Vol. 916, cc. 830–31.]
