asked the Secretary of State for Industry what was the number of IDC's granted and refused in intermediate areas, non-assisted areas and the South-East Region, respectively, from February 1974 to the latest convenient date.

From 1st February 1974 to 30th June 1976, the number of IDCs approved and refused was as follows—

Note. IDC exemption limits were lowered on 1st September 1974 from 10,000 sq. ft. to 5,000 sq. ft. in the South East, and from 15,000 sq. ft. to 10,000 sq. ft. elsewhere, outside the Intermediate Areas. On 1st May 1976, the exemption limits were raised to 12,500 sq. ft. and 15,000 sq. ft. respectively. The limit in the Intermediate Areas remained at 15,000 sq. ft. throughout the period.
