§ Mrs. Jegerasked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs whether he will raise again with the Turkish Government the payment of recompense to British citizens who suffered loss and injury during the Turkish invasion of Cyprus; and when he expects some progress in this matter, particularly in view of the advancing age of many of the British citizens concerned.
§ Mr. HattersleyMy hon. Friend the Under-Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs raised this question very recently with the Turkish Ambassador and again stressed the importance of making early progress on the payment of compensation. Whilst it is regrettably still impossible to say when a general settlement of this problem will be achieved, the Turkish Cypriot authorities have now accepted, for priority consideration on compassionate grounds, cases involving advanced age and need.
