HC Deb 04 August 1976 vol 916 cc808-9W
Mr. Carmichael

asked the Minister for the Civil Service if he will give his estimate of the number of civil servants to be made redundant following the cuts recently announced; and if he will further give his estimate in numbers and as a percentage for each of the following divisions; administrative, executive, clerical, industrial and scientific.

Mr. Charles R. Morris

It is too early to say. As I said in reply to a Question from my hon. Friend the Member for Burnley (Mr. Jones) on 29th July, the detailed implementation of savings on Civil Service manpower and related administration is now a matter for discussion between the managements and Staff Side interests of the Government Departments concerned. However, I do not expect a general redundancy problem, given the current rate of annual wastage, although there could be isolated problems associated with particular locations or areas of work.
