HC Deb 04 August 1976 vol 916 c807W
Mr. Arthur Lewis

asked the Minister for the Civil Service whether, in view of the fact that about 400 peers of the realm enjoy an income of £3 million from paid full and part-time public appointments, he will take steps to reduce the number of these appointments in the interests of economy.

Mr. Charles R. Morris

No. The appointments are necessary, and their cost is the same irrespective of who is appointed.
