HC Deb 04 August 1976 vol 916 c854W
Mrs. Ann Taylor

asked the Secretary of State for Socal Service if he will specify the proportion of income taken in national insurance (or social security) contributions in each member country of the EEC, specifying the employers' and employees' contribution for the latest year for which the information is available.

Mr. Orme

The following information shows total annual levels of contribution as at 1st January 1976 in general social security schemes for employed persons covering a number of benefits. The percentage rates of contribution and the earnings limits up to which they are levied vary in many cases from one benefit to another. The rates shown therefore apply generally only up to the lowest of these earnings limits. Details of these limits and of contributions for individual benefits will be contained in a revised version, correct to 1st January 1976, of the Comparative Social Security Tables for member States of the European Communities, now being prepared by my Department and shortly to be placed in the Library of the House.
