asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science if it

Wales on transport of pupils and students during the current financial year is estimated at £90 million. This includes expenditure, for which separate estimates are not available, on the transport of pupils following school type courses at further education colleges, on the provision of transport during the school day between schools and annexes, playing fields and similar places and also on giving assistance to pupils who do not receive free transport. The cost to local education authorities in the current financial year of providing free school transport alone is probably of the order of £80 million.
