HC Deb 03 August 1976 vol 916 cc770-5W
Mr. John Moore

asked the Secretary of State for Employment of the 14,050 increase in his Department from 1st March 1974 to 1st April 1976 what part of this 41 per cent. addition was made up by the staff of the Advisory Conciliation and Arbitration Service, the Health and Safety Commission/Executive and the Manpower Services Commission and it agencies, as opposed to internal departmental growth.

Mr. Golding

An analysis of the staff of the DE group at 1st March 1974 is not available, but the figures for 1st April 1974 and 1st April 1976 with percentage increases are shown in the table below:

Mr. Golding

I regret that the precise information requested is not available. Rates of unemployment can be calculated for the Wigan travel-to-work area as a whole but not separately for that part of the area covered by the Ince parliamentary constituency. The following table shows the rates for the Wigan travel-to-work area and Great Britain.

give a breakdown, according to the minimum industrial classification list, of the 2,900 persons at present unemployed in the Skelmersdale New Town.

Mr. Harold Walker

The following table shows the numbers registered as unemployed in the area covered by the Skelmersdale Employment Office at June 1976, the most recent date for which an industrial analysis is available:
